If digg is any indication, then the pressure for inaction far exceeds the pressure for action, just look at all the comments effectively stating that the Fed and by extension the U.S. Government, should mind their own business and let the market sort it out itself for better or (more likely) for worse. Because folks believe in dumb conspiracy theories like the Amero (really, why would America or Canada for that matter want to share a currency with Mexico, a relatively unstable third world country whose occupants are fleeing in droves? And when has America been one for Multilateralism?)

McCain is just saying to much wrong to even think about getting my vote. If i vote at all it will not be till i see the running mates. I just cant get over the ad's i have seen him run there all FEAR ad's. It is fear campaign just like something Bush would pull. And i do not like his Victory or Death! view on the war. You are just as much a slave whether you are directly under the slave driver's whip, or under threat of violence from men who will show up at your door with guns if you don't turn over the product of your labor when they tell you to.

The "explanation" in 2010 ruined the whole point of 2001. I love Arthur C. Clarke's work but I disown 2010. HAL's behavior was supposed to be unexplained and unexplainable. You can sort of figure out what's going on if you think about how (SPOILER ALERT) the alien intelligence tinkers with the early humans to get them to start using tools and survive. HAL is just being tinkered with by the unseen alien presence in order to kill off the other passengers and force the last survivor to leave the ship and start his journey to them and to the place he eventually ends up. They're just guiding humanity at key points along the way and HAL is their means to do it. So, the best explanation in 2010 would have been NO explanation. They should have arrived on the ship and studied HAL and come to the conclusion that he was functioning perfectly well and there is no explanation for his behavior. I'm not sure what Clarke was thinking with that silly explanation but it's one of the few times his artistic judgment didn't work for me.
