I don't rip on NASA and I'm a libertarian. I also don't rip on spacex, because both are doing great things. They're not necessarily mutually exclusive things. Libertarians don't believe in anarchy, and part of government is the occasional public service (roadwork comes to mind), I would say space exploration is one of those service. Nevertheless, just like with private companies that make roads and collect money off them, so too exists spacex.
If you want people to understand science then you need to expose them directly to it. Any other activity is barely more than a method to prevent people from understanding science, a serious crime.
